Dealing with Muscle Strain

Although exercise and other physical activity is good for the body, you can strain your muscles without proper stretching and form. Muscle strains occur when a person over stretches their muscle. This is caused by several factors including the lack of a body’s flexibility, over-exercising, fatigue and forgetting to warm up the muscles before strenuous activity. Muscle strains are most common in the areas of the hamstring, thighs, neck, back, and shoulders.

How to Spot Muscle Strain

You will be able to identify muscle strains easily enough. The most common symptom would be stiffness. After strenuous exercise, one may feel their muscles tightening which makes it difficult and even painful to move. Swelling and bruising may also be a sign that you are experiencing muscle strains. Lastly, muscle spasms, soreness, or overall weakness of the affected area are indicators of muscle strain.

Thankfully, there are ways to relieve muscle strain. Some athletes use ice packs on the injured muscle. Ice packs are free, convenient, and administered at home. You may also elevate and compress the injured area to relieve swelling and pain. But most of all, one would need an ample amount of rest to help the muscles recuperate and heal.
